Winter Canal
This little canal connects the Neva with the Moika. It got its name from an earlier Winter Palace, built here in the 18th century for Peter the Great and later replaced by the Hermitage Theatre. The canal was dug in 1718 – 20. It is spanned by three bridges – the First Winter, the Second Winter and the hermitage bridges, all put up in the 18th century.
